Experienced Photoshop users can quickly find most of the familiar tools and settings, but it would be almost impossible to figure out how to utilize the full power of the CC on one's own. I learned almost everything I know about Photoshop from my year old, dog-eared copy of "Photoshop 6 for Dummies," and so I assumed that this book would provide the same kind of help.
Deke McClelland, the author of the old manual, was a lively and opinionated writer who could steer you through the maze of tools and menus by pointing out which were essential and which were repetitious or of little practical use. The CC manual, on the other hand, is a sleep-inducing compilation that adds little or nothing to what is available for free from Adobe's help file and online tutorials.
There's not one opinion in this manual nor any other indication that the author has actually USED CC for work or pleasure. I suspect that when the Wiley Corporation,a giant publisher of technical books, acquired the "Dummies" brand they replaced the editors and writers who gave the books their distinctive character, I'm sure that they will find their way to innovative publishers.
I just hope it will happen soon. Unfortunately, I'm having a hard time with this book. I was expecting it to be like other "Dummies" book; meaning I expected it to take me step by step through the processes of Photoshop one incredibly easy motion at a time.
Instead, I felt like I was supposed to have already graduated from the beginner's class into the intermediate level with this book. I haven't. I knew nothing about photoshop before I bought this book Was kind of disappointed to tell the truth. Some of the Photoshop menus and functions are very complex and the book often does not do an adequate job explaining. It is a helpful book, though. This book has been terrific in helping me to learn Photoshop. I had absolutely no experience in photo editing and needed to learn quickly.
I've got the basics down and I'm going through the book learning various aspects of PS as needed. I have started at the beginning again especially since I've had no previous experience and taking my time and reading and practicing as I go. I would highly recommend this book to novices like myself or anyone needing to brush up or learn something new.
CC For Dummies 1st Edition the book isnt as easy to understand as i was hoping. I dont reccomend this book. The product shipped fast but the book itself was not impressive. If you are a beginner and are starting out with creative cloud- you will waste your time with this book.

This book has much useful information for people who are already familiar with the basics of CC and if it was aimed at those people I would have given it 4 stars. I am not unintelligent and have some experience with earlier Photoshop programs but I found this difficult and confusing.
There is far too much unnecessary verbosity, and use of words and language that a beginner would not understand. If you are already OK with the basics it's 4 stars. If you are a beginner it's 1 star. I firmly consider that this should definitely not be in the 'For Dummies' category.

I think the most disappointing thing about this book is the images that the author has created or used to give the reader an idea of what they can achieve. In my opinion, I think the majority of images look out-dated, stuff you would see from a book written about 20 years ago in the early days of graphic design software. Can I say it made the book feel cheap? I get that the images are providing examples, but please, give us something to aspire to!
The content doesn't really go into a great amount of detail and I would say it's mostly an overview of what the tools in Photoshop do. I wanted to learn how to make an image background transparent and save it in 'png' format - I thought this might be in the book but I didn't find any useful guidance on the 'transparency' page. I found the delivery of the content confusing, it didn't feel like there was any purpose or structure and it didn't give me any additional confidence in using Photoshop CC.
Most of the information in the book can be found within in the Adobe Photoshop CC application and on the Adobe Photoshop community pages.
What does this book do well? There are some useful tips and points to remember and this is a staple of the 'for dummies' guides. The tips and points to remember are mostly useful. In summary, if you like a whirlwind product tour and a summary of the tools, with a few walk-throughs then this book might be for you.
If you are looking for a book on how to use Photoshop CC, then perhaps, look at other books. Poor quality print. I ordered this book several weeks ago and it isn't until now that I've had the time to look at it. I wish I had looked sooner because I would have returned it. The written text is fine but the quality of the screen samples is extremely poor.
The images are very dark and some of the comparable features from one image to the other are indistinguishable. It's as if the book printer used the wrong type of paper.
